The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.
Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?
Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.
The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

First things first, K. A. Tucker always has the best story covers. I always find them so captivating. Not only that, her books are usually a perfection.
Now, onto the book - this was a nice story, but I felt it was dragging on for too long. It was slow, but to the point where it got boring.
It was about Alex trying to get her memory back after being beaten and raped by her abusive husband. The POVs are dual and they're switching from past to present and it kind of made me quickly lose interest.
Jesse and Alex met when she was married and he spent a lot of time at her house because her husband asked him to repair one of his cars since he was known for being a very good mechanic.
Alex married young and she married an older man. She was unhappy in her marriage, her husband treated her badly and he was disloyal. No one could do anything about it because he was a dangerous man, known to be mixed with the mafia and feared all over around.
This was a nice read, a little bit harder at some parts, especially when Jesse knew what was happening and he couldn't do anything about it until it was too late.
Overall, I felt like Jesse and Alex didn't have enough chemistry and their story just didn't pull me in like I expected it to. I wanted more moments of them together because with how things went here, I just didn't care for them anymore. I really missed the romance.
