I was so excited for this book to get released because, come on. Look at that cover. And the synopsis just screamed that this book is for me! No, but really. And after reading it ... the storyline is literally the only thing I really enjoyed about this book.
I absolutely loved the idea of this story. I love reading about forbidding love stories and when you throw sports into it? Maaan, I am so in! But (and we all knew this was coming), I felt like this story was just not really ... it.
I liked Amber. She was easy-going, strong and never held herself back. She was very mature for her age and she was goal-oriented. That's one of the main reasons her coach go interested in her.
Torres was ... I don't know, he just wasn't anything to get me in a twist. It might do with the poor description of him or him just being very closed-off in the book until the end and I couldn't really connect with him as a character.
But then there was also a fact that this story felt a little too unrealistic sometimes. There were coincidences such as Torres showing up at Amber's hometown or him appearing at just the right time.
Also the fact that Torres kept Amber at a distance, he sometimes left her hanging, not answering her messages and calls, only to come back with half-excuse that he wants someone better for her and he just wanted to back off. Ladies, are we still believing in those excuses? In 2020?
There was also the scene in a book when Amber met Torres's mother (while they still weren't a thing, they weren't even that close on a personal level), and she says this:
❝This is your mom? Well, now I see where your good looks come from! You're so beautiful, Mrs. Torres!❞
That's such a weird thing to say to your coach's mother and the mother being all happy about it, even though Amber is much much younger than Torres. Also, I don't even want to get started od Amber's mother taking it very lightly that her daughter is having an affair with her older coach.
Anyways! This book really wasn't all bad. The whole idea of the forbidden affair was portrayed nicely, I loved that Torres stuck up for Amber since day one, even though he was known as being an asshole on the field. This story itself was sexy with the uncontrollable attraction between the two main characters.

This month, there are quite a few books I'm excited to read. There are some new releases I'm very excited about, there are some ARCs waiting for me and then there are just a few books I've wanted to read for a while. I also know that this list will most likely change (meaning: I'll find some more books I want to read). But, in general, this is my goal for this month (and this month is looking bright!).
I'll also try to read some poetry and books about self-help this month because I have this goal now that I have to read at least one book about self-growth a month.
I also have some new posts awaiting about the books I've read, so this month is looking quite busy for me. And I am excited about that!
