They say your first kiss should be earned.

Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky.

They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred.

Mine were broken before we left church.

They say your heart only beats for one man.

Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end.

I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit.

Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage.

They say that all great love stories have a happy ending.

I, Francesca Rossi, found myself erasing and rewriting mine until the very last chapter.

One kiss.
Two men.
Three lives.
Entwined together.

And somewhere between these two men, I had to find my forever.

I always love me some dark romance with some dark, complex men that do bad things. But things can get south pretty quickly with those stories for me if they are not written correctly. While this story was enjoyable at most, there were a few things I just couldn't overlook.

The reason why I gave this three stars is because of the age difference. It was bothering me a lot and it was disturbing that a 30 year old was at first pinning after a 19 year old girl, married her, had dirty thoughts about her and then did all those things with her. I just couldn't enjoy those parts because it was weird to read and, therefore, I couldn't enjoy the story as much as I wanted to.

Age difference in books isn't usually a big deal for me, but when it comes to someone this young ... I draw some line. And if I knew that, I would certainly not pick the book up and read it because I'm not into that.

But, overall, the story was good with a good amount of drama and sexiness, although Wolfe Keaton had to grow on me at first because all that sexual stuff he was doing to Francesca and they way he handled their first time together ... was bad

Francesca was a part of scheme of him wanting to bring her father down and I somehow I understood the way he acted towards her.

And Francesca was acting mature about her situation most of the time, but she was still young and that showed sometimes, too.

I expected something different and something way better from this book because I've heard people talking about it a lot and it has some glorious reviews. It just didn't pull me in like I thought it would and I think I need a break from L. J. Shen's books because they're either make-it or break-it for me.
