His touch is her sin.

Her love is his salvation.

Charismatic. Confident. Powerful. Controlling.

A brilliant investor with a Midas touch, Devlin Saint turned a modest inherited fortune into billions, and now operates one of the world’s foremost international philanthropic organizations. He’s a man determined to help the underprivileged, to fight injustice, and to make the world a better place. And that, at least is true.

It’s not, however, the full truth.

Because Devlin Saint is a man with a dangerous secret. One he’ll do whatever it takes to protect. And when investigative reporter Ellie Holmes turns her attention to an unsolved murder, she finds herself caught in a web of intrigue and passion as Devlin draws her closer and closer. But as the intensity and sensuality of their relationship grows, so do Ellie’s suspicions. Until she is no longer certain if the heat between her and Devlin is real, or only a facade he constructed to hide his dark and twisted secrets.

I've been excited about this book for months. Everything I've ever read from J. Kenner, I absolutely loved, so I thought it would be the same with this one, naturally.

Man, oh, man. I didn't hate this book, but the disappointment was really big. It was so much bigger because I had high expectations about and it didn't reach them, unfortunately. I've read all seven chapters before the book came out and I was so excited to meet Devlin/Alex and learn his story.

Ellie didn't do it for me. She literally couldn't move on from the past. Alex was her first love and, years after she left, she still kept thinking about him.

The night she sees him again, she's with another man, wanting to sleep with him, but Devlin comes and chases him away and Ellie lets him touch her there and making her orgasm.

Moving on, she still falls at his feet, even though he left all those years ago without any explanation after taking her virginity. She lets him do whatever he wants because she still loves him.

Devlin is a man who literally doesn't know what the hell he wants from Ellie. He wants her by his side, but he also wants her to go away. He wants to sleep with her, but only on his terms. When they take a trip, he tells her they can sleep together, but only on this trip and not after they come back (?).

But when they come back, he attacks her and pounces on her like an animal. He's constantly pushing her away with his words, but his actions are sweet and have a double-meaning. He's confusing and I just couldn't find him charming.

Also, the sex scenes were lacking the hotness and the sexiness we usually get from Kenner. And I got bored with this book after 70 % because I just wasn't invested in their relationship. It was unnecessary complicate and I especially wasn't a fan of Devlin.

I thought we would get a little bit more from J. Kenner since all her books are literally fire and she can deliver a hell of a storyline, especially with a broken man, but just not with this one. I'm not really a fan and my disappointment is real big this time.
