Blakely Foxx is having one of those years.

Her divorce may have been finalized a few months ago, but her ex is already engaged to someone half her age. Her younger boss is determined to sabotage her chance at getting the promotion she rightly deserves. And to make matters worse, she’s closing in on the big 4-0. There isn’t enough wine or ice cream in the world to convince her things will turn around.

When Blakely meets Slade Henderson, she’s left wondering why an early-thirties, hotter than hell, cardiothoracic surgeon would take an interest in her.

She’s been warned that he’ll break her heart, but she’s willing to take the chance. Not only is he helping her get that promotion, but in the process, he’s encouraging her to find the parts of herself she’s lost over the past few years.

Slade shows her that good guys really do exist, but who knew the hardest part about turning forty would be realizing the man you thought was a rebound, is actually your happily ever after?

Unfortunately, this book wasn't my favourite. It didn't keep me engaged and I was struggling to read on until I just gave up at around 70 % because it was too boring and too repetitive.

I liked the idea of this book, especially because you don't see this often in romance novels. My issues with the book lay in Blakely because she was way too insecure and whiny, especially when it came to her age and her job.

By the way she was acting, you'd assume she was way younger than her love interest, Slade, not the other way around because he was way more mature than her.

She was missing a backbone and you'd think she'd already had it, knowing her age. With her problems at the job, she wanted Slade to kind of help her get back at her boss and even co-workers (because, apparently, she isn't able to do that by herself and she needs a man; someone young and hot enough to show off).

Slade was just way too sweet and way too patient with her. I just couldn't feel Blakely and Slade's chemistry, no matter how much he tried to make it happen, because all she kept thinking about was their age difference, even though he wasn't bothered by it.

Maybe my issue with this book also lays than when it's the other way around with the age difference (older man, younger woman), you don't see them stressing themselves about them being too old or stressing about what will people think. At least not for the whole book.

And then there was also going to the mountains with her new boss and all her coworkers and half of the book was about their few days staying there, showing how Blakely was trying to get a backbone and Slade was helping her with it.

This book was lacking a little something for me because I just couldn't get into it. It's a shame, because I usually love K. Bromberg's works.

New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate but can’t help to love.

A mom of three, she plots her novels in between school runs and soccer practices, more often than not with her laptop in tow.

Since publishing her first book on a whim in 2013, Kristy has sold over one and a half million copies of her books across sixteen different countries and has landed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists over thirty times. Her Driven trilogy (Driven, Fueled, and Crashed) is currently being adapted for film by Passionflix with the first movie, Driven, releasing August 10th.

With her imagination always in overdrive, she is currently scheming, plotting, and swooning over her latest hero.
