When Leeds meets Layla, he’s convinced he’ll spend the rest of his life with her—until an unexpected attack leaves Layla fighting for her life. After weeks in the hospital, Layla recovers physically, but the emotional and mental scarring has altered the woman Leeds fell in love with. In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed-and-breakfast where they first met. Once they arrive, Layla’s behavior takes a bizarre turn. And that’s just one of many inexplicable occurrences.

Feeling distant from Layla, Leeds soon finds solace in Willow—another guest of the B&B with whom he forms a connection through their shared concerns. As his curiosity for Willow grows, his decision to help her find answers puts him in direct conflict with Layla’s well-being. Leeds soon realizes he has to make a choice because he can’t help both of them. But if he makes the wrong choice, it could be detrimental for all of them.

❝You look like you're dying inside.❞
As someone who doesn't read/love fantasy books, this one blew my mind. I really had no idea what was waiting for me at the end, but knowing Colleen Hoover, I knew it was going to be such a twist it'll blow my mind.

I wasn't wrong.

I also made the mistake of reading this book in bed before sleeping and, well, let me tell you - I was starting to overthink every noise I've heard. So, my advice: don't read this before bed.

To give a brief presentation of the story: Layla and Leeds experience love at the first sight. From the first day together, they become inseparable. But then something happens. Leeds's ex shoots Layla and after that, she's different.

Leeds takes Layla on a small vacation to the house they first met to reconnect with her and help her heal, but upon arriving there, weird things start happening right away that Leeds can't explain.

Leeds starts spending more and more time with Willow and they connect. He starts falling in love with her because there's a certain pull towards her he feels, so he has to deal with his dilemma of what to do with Layla now.

But the story is not so simple and it doesn't just end there. We have a twist at the end, a very happy and surprising twist that I certainly did not explain and my anger towards Leeds for what he was doing to Layla completely vanished because he has his reasons for that.

Honestly, I didn't expect anything less but for this book to make me sit in astonishment after finishing it. There's no wonder why Colleen Hoover is one of my absolutely favourite authors, everything she puts out is just simply amazing.

It's fair to say that even if you're not a big fantasy lover (like me), you'll enjoy this book!

The only thing Layla ever did wrong is fall in love with me.
