This book was so wholesome and heartbreakingly beautiful, I have a feeling it's going to stay with me for a long time. This one is heavy, but I haven't expected anything less from one of my favourite authors.
Beyah comes to live with her father after the tragic death of her mother. Upon coming there, she quickly sees her father lives quite a different life than what she's used to, considering she and her mom were so poor, Beyah was struggling a lot. She also gets a new stepmother and a stepsister that both love her as soon as she arrives.
Beyah is a closed book. She doesn't trust easily and the lies come easily with her. When she meets Samson, everything changes.
Both of them have very tragic pasts, both of their lives are similar, even though it doesn't seem like that on the surface. When Beyah and Samson start hanging out more, they learn that they understand each other a lot since they've experienced some tough times in their lives.
Samson, though, is the most secretive while Beyah opens up to him. Since they both have plans about leaving when the summer ends, going on different paths, they decide to hang out and live those two months out to the maximum.
Samson becomes the only person who she can trust and rely on - besides her stepsister - and both of them start having feelings for each other.
Their love story is intense. First real love and first heartbreak. When Beyah starts to believe that she finally found something and someone good and that her life is finally turning for the better, things change in the middle of the night.
I'm not giving anything away because I'd spoil the book way too much, I just have to say that towards the end, I was on the verge of my seat, literally eating the pages.
But I loved the end. I love how Beyah refused to give up on Samson and kept believing in him, even though everyone was against him and against them.
This book was so sweet, yet so heartbreaking at parts, which only made it that much more memorable.

I beg to differ because this book, apparently, managed to break my heart bone.

I DNFed this book at 45 % because, even though I pushed myself to finish it, I just couldn't because I wasn't feeling it.
I have a soft spot for Wattpad books because I use it, too; as a reader and a writer and whenever I see someone getting published from that site, I'm happy for them and I try extra hard to enjoy the books (yet it hasn't happened yet, unfortunately).
I couldn't connect with this book. I didn't really like the characters and it wasn't what I expected, nor wanted.
The story is happening in 1998. Ellie goes to a party one night where she meets Leroy and, even though being a virgin, she sleeps with thin. This is at the very beginning and that's one of the things that bothered me, but I went on. The story continues with Ellie having to go away, but Leroy and her keep in touch all that time.
Ellie moved to Leroy's house with his brother and his parents in the summer. I thought their story would pick up then, but I was disappointed because nothing really happened and it got really boring really quick.
Leroy's brother, Noah, started playing a big part in the story and it felt like everything revolved around him. Noah did stupid things so Leroy always had to save him. He also hated Ellie being there with them.

And then it came to the night when Noah should spend an evening at his on and off girlfriend (not really girlfriend, more like a friend he hung out with regularly, but slept with others, too), but he didn't go there. Instead, he went somewhere else where he slept with a 15 year old. A 15 year old!
And then I said enough is enough and I closed my kindle.
I couldn't feel any chemistry between Leroy and Ellie, therefore, their story wasn't interesting to me and basically the same things were happening all the time and it was just nothing new or nothing worth to be excited about.
I tried, I really did because I wanted to stop reading it way before 45 %, but I just couldn't finish it, unfortunately. And you know, ARC or not, I'll always give a 100 % honest review.

REVIEW
Okay, this was such a cute book. It was truly a nice and interesting read. I loved Lara Jean because she's a girl with her head in the right place. I didn't like her sisters, but that's another story.
Lara Jean is a good girl with her head in the clouds at times. She goes through normal problems that 16-year-olds have with the boys, but she finds the solutions to her troubles quickly and efficiently. Or at least she thinks so.
Peter Kavinsky is a typical popular cute boy at the same school as her, but he has a good heart and treats Lara Jean well. They're not complete opposites as one would think, but they share a lot of similarities.
I honestly didn't expect to enjoy reading this book as much as I did. It's a great plot, you laugh out loud at times, and it also leaves you a little nostalgic. And ending definitely leaves you craving more.
