Genre: Romance

With a famous NHL player for a stepbrother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation of many a hockey star. So of course she isn't interested in legendary team captain Alex Waters or his pretty, beat-up face and rock-hard six-pack abs. But when Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet's misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes much more than just a hot body with the face to match. Suffering from a complete lapse in judgment, Violet discovers just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants.

Violet believes her night of orgasmic magic with Alex is just that: one night. But Alex starts to call. And text. And email and send extravagant - and quirky - gifts. Suddenly he's too difficult to ignore and nearly impossible not to like. The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn't want to be part of the game.

DNF at 35 %. This book was so poorly written that I could not bring myself to finish it.

The plot was boring. The characters were childish and annoying. The sex scenes were absolutely terrible. The humour was non-existent and it felt like the author was trying too hard to make it quirky and different. And, overall, the writing was something I wouldn't expect from one of my favourite authors because it was absolutely terrible. I can't even begin how disappointed I am in this book.

I was cringing so hard at basically every second line that was said in this book because it was just stupid and made me wonder why, oh why does this have to be in here?

Violet was annoying and immature. This character was terribly written, because she was supposed to give off the vibe of being cute and strong (?), but I didn't feel any of that. She was just annoying, plain and simple.

Alex was supposed to be different. He's this sexy, wealthy, well-known player (both on and off the field), but he's also shy, awkward and darky and he's also smart because, guess what - he reads books! Droon worthy, am I right? No

And then we have Violet's step-brother that's so weird I don't even want to discuss him. I don't know what was up with that / him.

Okay, so a little spoiler alert:

Violet goes to the game to watch and support his step-brother, even though she absolutely does not want to. And when she goes, she meets Alex Waters. He sees her, too, in all of the crowd, his eyes have time to find her (mind you, they don't know each other) and he also has time to notice that she was reading a book.

After the game ends, they meet. After that, he comes knocking on her hotel door in the evening (even though she's staying with her parents) and they go to his room. They hook up. The sex scene is so cringy and terrible, I have no idea why Alex insists on contacting her afterwards and panting like a dog that wants a bone.

Mind you, this all happens in the first 20 % of the book.

And then it just gets messy and childish and I just couldn't read on. So, yes. This book, unfortunately, wasn't my cup of tea, but this author has a new book coming out in a few days and I'm excited for that one!
